The all-new 2023 Chevy Silverado EV is the perfect truck for anyone in search of an eco-friendly option that doesn’t sacrifice performance or handling. This electric vehicle (EV) offers a best-in-class driving experience thanks to its impressive handling and acceleration. Plus, its sleek design and cutting-edge features make it the perfect choice for any driver. The Silverado EV is up for anything, whether you’re hauling cargo or hitting the open road. Read on to learn more about what makes the Silverado EV so special.

Trim Options

The all-new 2023 Chevy Silverado EV is available in three trim levels: the Work Truck (WT), Trail Boss, and Rally Sport Truck (RST). Each trim level offers unique features and benefits, so you can choose the one that’s right for you. Here is a quick overview of the three trim levels:

  • WT: The WT is the entry-level Silverado EV trim starting at an estimated MSRP of $39,900. It’s aimed at fleet buyers and commercial customers. It has standard features, such as steel wheels, black bumpers, a backup camera, and a Stabilitrak stability control system with proactive roll avoidance and traction control.
  • Trail Boss: The Trail Boss is the off-road focused Silverado EV trim, starting at a $50,000 estimated MSRP. It comes with all the features of the RST, including an off-road suspension package that includes Rancho shocks, skid plates, and a two-speed transfer case. It also has an electric locking differential, a lift kit, unique wheels, off-road-oriented tires, and more.
  • RST: The RST is the top-of-the-line Silverado EV trim, starting at a $105,000 estimated MSRP. It comes with all the features of the WT but with an E-4WD system capable of producing instantaneous torque to all four wheels. It also adds 24-inch alloy wheels, which are the largest in its class, and black side mirrors that match the clacking and sail fins.

Performance, Handling, and Range

Performance

The all-new 2023 Chevy Silverado EV is the first all-electric Chevy truck, and it doesn’t disappoint on the performance front. This workhorse is powered by two electric motors, which enable the WT to generate a combined output of 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to its unique E-4WD system, the RST’s peak power is instantaneous and can deliver 664 horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque.

The Silverado EV doesn’t disappoint when it comes to hauling and towing. The WT has a maximum towing capacity of 8,000 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 1,200 pounds. Meanwhile, the RST can tow up to 10,000 pounds and carry 1,300 pounds of cargo. Although the release date for the heavy-duty fleet model of the Chevy Silverado WT EV is yet to be announced, it’s expected to have a towing capacity of up to 20,000 pounds.

The Silverado EV’s design also adds sporty performance to this reliable workhorse. At maximum power mode, zero to 60 mph is achievable in just 4.2 seconds — a second faster than the gas-powered Silverado. You’ll also look like a pro when parking as all four wheels tuck in flush with the body for a tight turning radius. This helps you manage a smaller turn radius and park in compact spots.

Handling

The 2023 Chevy Silverado is a big and powerful truck, but it’s also surprisingly nimble. Thanks to a well-tuned air ride adaptive suspension system, the Silverado can easily handle corners while still providing a smooth ride on rough roads. Even when fully loaded, the Silverado EV can maintain its composure, giving drivers confidence behind the wheel. Consequently, this truck is one of the best in its class for handling and ride quality.

Range and Charging Time

At the center of General Motors’ (GM) EV push is Ultium battery technology, specially designed to power the next generation of EVs. With demand for EVs already on the rise, it’s no surprise that Chevy is one of the first automakers to offer an all-electric truck. GM’s new battery system offers industry-leading range, charge times, and energy density.

Both range and charge times are essential design elements for potential EV work trucks or off-road models. After all, the last thing you want is to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with a dead battery. The good news is that the Silverado EV has the best range of any electric truck on the market, thanks to its 200 kWh battery pack. This gives the truck a range of over 400 miles on a single charge. However, expect the Trail Boss trim to have slightly less range due to its large all-terrain tires used for off-roading.

In comparison, the Ford F150 Lightning base trim has an EPA-estimated range of 230 miles, which is considerably less. Another worthy rival is the Hummer EV, which manages an EPA-estimated range of 350 miles, but this is still less than what the Silverado EV offers.

As for charge times, the Chevy Silverado EV takes things a step further by offering an impressive 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging, which is the fastest charge time of any electric truck on the market. Doing the math, this means you can charge a drained battery to 80% capacity in just 45 minutes. To achieve this, the Silverado EV uses a high-speed 800-volt DC fast charger and transmits power directly to the battery at a rate of 350 kW.

For those plugging in at home, the Silverado EV comes standard with a 240-volt Level 2 home charger that can fully charge the truck overnight. The truck also charges on Level 1 120-volt outlets, although this will take considerably longer. Even better, the Silverado EV has a regenerative braking system that helps extend the vehicle’s range.

The 2023 Chevy Silverado EV is the first of its kind. It’s a highly anticipated electric truck that’s revolutionizing how we think about performance and handling. We can’t wait to get our hands on one and see its capabilities. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the release date.
