The Chevy Equinox is an SUV that comes with two rows of seating, so it can fit five occupants in total. The gas mileage will vary depending on your drivetrain and powertrain configuration, but it’s all pretty efficient. The Equinox comes with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the vehicle’s base engine. If you want more horsepower and torque, you can opt for the 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
The Equinox traditionally comes with a front-wheel-drive system, but you can opt for an all-wheel-drive system if you want a bit more traction. Note that if you get an all-wheel-drive system, you’ll notice a slight decrease in fuel efficiency. This difference is usually just a few miles per gallon, but it can go a long way when you’re trying to save money with each trip to the gas station.
The most eco-friendly (and wallet-friendly) option is to get the base engine with a front-wheel-drive configuration. The Environmental Protection Agency reports that this combination brings you a fuel economy of 26 miles per gallon in the city and 31 miles per gallon on the highway. This equals a combined mileage of 28 miles per gallon.
Chevy Trax
The Chevy Trax is another five-person SUV that provides excellent gas mileage. If you plan on doing a lot of city driving, you can expect to get up to 24 miles per gallon. This means that if you split your time between city driving and highway driving equally, you may get up to 27 miles per gallon.
These figures are true when you get the Chevy Trax with its base engine and its standard front-wheel-drive system. The base engine is a 1.4 liter four-cylinder engine. It boasts 155 horsepower and comes with a six-speed automatic transmission, which is more than decent when considering its gas mileage. While you can opt for the all-wheel-drive system, you certainly don’t have to do so to experience a great ride. The base version of the Trax isn’t just about fuel efficiency, it also brings responsive handling, minimal leaning, and strong brakes to the table.
Chevy Blazer

Just like the Equinox and the Trax, the Chevy Blazer is an SUV that seats five people and is excellent for your gas budget. You can get up to 22 miles per gallon on city streets when you aren’t flying down the highway. If you participate in strict highway driving, the gas mileage goes up to 29 miles per gallon. If you find yourself doing a bit of both, you can get a combined gas mileage of around 25 miles per gallon. This is true if you have the Blazer’s base engine, which is a 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.
As is common for Chevy SUVs, the standard drivetrain is front-wheel drive. However, you can opt for all-wheel drive. This often comes with a higher starting price for your vehicle. These two statistics create a combined fuel efficiency of 21 miles per gallon. This is quite impressive, especially given that the Traverse is a larger vehicle.
Note that this fuel efficiency is available with the Traverse’s standard 3.6 liter V-6 engine and front-wheel-drive system. If you prefer to have an SUV with an all-wheel-drive system, you can opt for one. Be aware that the fuel efficiency will decrease slightly if you opt for all-wheel drive.
