If you’re looking for a fun way to spend some free time around Lewisville, there’s several movie theaters within easy driving distance to check out. Due to COVID-19, drive-in movie theaters have seen their popularity increase, because they allow you to watch a movie from the comfort of your vehicle while observing social distancing guidelines. We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite drive-in places to catch a movie in the local area, along with some information about the services they’ve got on offer. We hope you enjoy.

Coyote Drive-In Theater

The Coyote Drive-In Theater is located in Fort Worth and is open every day from 6pm. There used to be a second location in Lewisville, but it closed in 2018. They charge $8 per adult and $5 for kids aged 5 to 11. As a helpful bonus for families with young kids, anyone aged 4 or under goes free.

The theater provides a helpful rundown of the movies it’s showing each week on its homepage. There, you can check the runtime and recommended rating for each movie before you arrive. You can also purchase tickets online.

The Coyote also serves food every day from 6pm from its canteen. Its dedicated team of staff offers group bookings for special events, which can include a food service. This is a great option for birthdays or other celebrations. Depending on the size of your group, you can request a private rental of a movie screen.

Walmart Drive-In Theaters

While many traditional movie theaters were forced to close during the pandemic, Walmart opened up its parking lots for pop-up movie theaters. There are several such theaters available within less than 30 miles of driving from Lewisville. These include drive-ins in The Colony, Hickory Creek, Frisco, Irving, Roanoke, Plano, Bedford, Denton, Prosper, Murphy, McKinney, Grand Prairie, and Wylie.

One of the most obvious advantages of these movie theaters is their location. Since they’re in the parking lot of Walmart stores, you can combine your trip to the movies with your shopping needs.

Fun Movie Grill

The Fun Movie Grill has locations in Richardson, Irving, and Carrollton for you to choose from. After you select your preferred location on the homepage, you can view a list of movies for your chosen day.

In addition to offering all the leading Hollywood movies, Fun Movie Grill also streams favorites from Bollywood. This includes screenings in various languages, such as Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

While you’re enjoying your chosen movie from the comfort of your vehicle, you can dine on food from the Fun Pizza Kitchen. You can select your preferred pizza style and toppings to your liking. Fun Movie Grill can also provide private bookings for larger groups.

Starlight Productions

This company provides inflatable cinema screens suitable for outdoor drive-in movie screenings in the Dallas and Fort Worth areas. Their screens are available in three sizes: 12×7 feet, 16×9 feet, and 24×14 feet. The screens feature digital streaming capabilities and have JBL sound systems.

Starlight was established in 2012 and has made a name for itself by catering to private events. Thanks to the portability of its screens, it also has the flexibility to bring the drive-in experience to a new generation by setting up shop in unique locations.

Brazos Drive-In

This movie theater is a little further away in Granbury. However, the fact that it’s been open since 1952 makes it well worth a visit. It’s a family-owned theater that screens single features on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

The movie theater charges $20 a carload, or $10 for single adults. Concessions are available for members of the military, nurses, doctors, teachers, and students. Brazos can hold up to 125 cars.

Outside of normal opening hours, the theater offers private party bookings. These can be held from Monday to Thursday between March and November. For live performances, you can also check out some of these community theatres in the Lewisville, TX area.

Texas Theater Sunset Drive-In

Responding to the demand created by COVID-19, the Texas Theater converted one of its parking lots in Dallas into a drive-in movie theater. Movies are shown on the weekends.

Only one ticket is required per car. Cars require a digital tuner to pick up the movie sound. The lot opens one hour prior to the screening. Drinks and snacks are also available. As a nice touch, you can order your chosen food and drink via your phone prior to the performance, and your order will be delivered to your car by an employee.

Galaxy Drive-In Theater

The Galaxy Drive-In Theater is located in Ennis, about 50 miles from Lewisville. Movie showtimes typically start from 6:30pm each evening. Ticket prices are affordable, with the cost being $8 for adults and $4 for kids. There is no option to buy online tickets. Instead, you pay your entry fee at the box office.

The Galaxy also offers a small snack bar service. You can purchase large or small drinks, popcorn, chips, boxed candy, and water.

Galaxy Drive-In has grown in popularity since it first opened its doors in 2004. While it only started with three screens, the location rapidly added a fourth and fifth screen, and today operates with seven. Its loan snack bar grew to two, and it shifted to digital streaming within the past year.
