Places To Enjoy Ice Skating in Lewisville, TX

Just because you live in Texas doesn’t mean you have to give up on your dream of ice skating. Whether you are into figure skating, want to play hockey, or just want to go for a casual skate with some friends, you can do it in Lewisville, Texas. It may be impossible to find a frozen pond in the winter that is safe to skate on, but indoor ice rinks are much easier to locate. If you live in Lewisville just 30 minutes north of downtown Dallas, you have several options of ice rinks in the area to check out.

Children’s Health StarCenter

Children’s Health StarCenter is a Dallas-area group of centers with ice rinks. You can stop by for the public skate sessions as well as attend adult and youth hockey programs and learn-to-skate classes. The rinks are even available to rent for birthday parties or events. During some months, certain centers offer sessions where you can try skating for free, which is a great option if you haven’t skated before and want to check it out. Schedules and activities vary by rinks, so be sure to check the websites or call to confirm any sessions or events you plan to attend.

One of the closest ice rinks to Lewisville is the Farmers Branch at 12700 N. Stemmons Freeway in Farmer’s Branch. Other close ones are the Valley Ranch location, which is less than 20 minutes south of the city at 211 Cowboys Parkway in Irving, and the Plano location at 4020 W. Plano Parkway. The McKinney location is about 20 minutes east of Lewisville at 6993 Stars Ave., McKinney. Others include the Euless center, about 25 minutes from Lewisville at 1400 S. Pipeline Road between Dallas and Fort Worth, and the Comerica Center at 2601 Ave. of the Stars in Frisco.

Galleria Dallas Ice Skating Center

The Galleria Dallas Ice Skating Center is a large indoor rink located in a shopping center at 13350 Dallas Parkway, only 20 minutes southeast of Lewisville, making it convenient to get to. It offers public skating sessions, as well as skate rentals if you don’t have your own equipment. There are group rates for larger parties of 10 or more if you call 48 hours ahead, so grab some friends and make some plans. It also offers discounts if you purchase a multi-session card of 10 sessions and there is a discount card for 10 skate rentals for one person.

The Galleria Ice Skating Center’s schedule varies by day and can change so check before you go, but most days it opens at 10 a.m., or noon on the weekends, and can stay open as late as 9 p.m. It is also available to rent by the hour if you are throwing a private birthday party with up to 30 people. If you and your friends are looking for a snack after your skate, there are several eateries located in the shopping center that will deliver to the private party room, where you can retire after your hour of skating.

Allen Community Ice Rink

The Allen Community Ice Rink is located in the Credit Union of Texas Event Center at 200 E. Stacy Road in Allen, just 20 minutes from Lewisville. The full-sized rink offers many skating sessions, including public open skate, free skate for practicing jumps and spins, stick time for hockey practice in full gear, and more. Amenities include skate rentals and sharpening, locker rooms, and off-ice practice areas. If you’re new to skating or feel a little rusty, then check out the learn-to-skate lessons for beginners to advanced skaters and both adults and children.

NYTEX Sports Centre

If you or your kids are hockey lovers, then you’ll definitely want to check out the NYTEX Sports Centre, home of the Brahmas hockey team and skating academy. It is located about 30 minutes southwest of Lewisville at 8851 Ice House Drive, North Richland Hills. At the sports center, you can take your kids to hockey camps and classes including mini-mite hockey for ages 6 to 9. You’ll also find learn-to-skate classes, adult hockey classes, and figure skating classes, as well as private lessons for both hockey players and figure skaters. You can pre-register for classes online.

If you’re just looking to skate for fun, NYTEX Sports Centre also has public skate sessions nearly every day around noon and on most Friday evenings. Check the schedule or call ahead to confirm times, as these can be affected by hockey game schedules. You can pre-register for classes or skating online, and rental skates are available if you don’t have your own. You can also drop off skates to be sharpened, or check out the NYTEX shop to buy your own skates and gear as well as Brahmas team merchandise and other goodies.
