The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA) encompasses the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, the Blackland Prairie, and the Eastern Cross Timbers. Over 360 different vertebrate species live in the diverse habitats found here.
You can witness a majestic herd of over 700 bison on the prairies, living alongside gray wolves, pocket gophers, elk, white-tailed deer, and prairie kingsnakes. The “wall of woods” that rises up along the prairie is home to wild turkeys, bobcats, and Southern flying squirrels. The charming manmade pocket prairie/pollinator garden provides a home for a wide variety of butterflies, including monarchs, buckeyes, emperors, queens, and pearl crescents.
You can experience the abundance of wildlife and stunning natural highlights here through a variety of guided activities, including bird walks, kayak tours, nature walks, night hikes, and more. Children can participate in the My First Fish activity that introduces young anglers to the art of casting, knot tying, fishing rules and ethics, fish identification, and aquatic habitats. On the third Saturday of the month, from noon to 3 p.m., visitors can tour the restored 1870 Minor-Porter Log House and take a step back in time.
If you prefer to adventure on your own, families are welcome to camp, fish, hike, kayak, canoe, geocache, and picnic in the LLELA, located at 201 East Jones St. The entry fee is just $5 per vehicle, making this an affordable option for a full day of family fun. There are also family-fun activities that are free to the public.
GatSplat Lewisville
GatSplat Lewisville, at 582 E State Hwy 121, is an engaging indoor paintball arena that offers ample entertainment for families who want an active afternoon activity. The enclosed field keeps you safe from the elements, so you never have to worry about getting rained out. GatSplat even has a viewing area where spectators can watch the action from behind a safe wall of glass. Seating is available outside the paintball arena so you can relax between games. You’re welcome to bring in food or order pizza from Alfredo’s, which is nearby.
If you’re looking for a gentler alternative to paintball, you can book a two-hour Nerf party that includes a Nerf war against your opponents as well as a target game where you shoot at orbs of your team’s color. Gelly Ball is another fun alternative. This is available as a two-hour private event for players ages 4 and up. GellyBall Blasters shoot soft gel balls that are mess-free, stain-free, and ouch-free so younger players can get in on the fun.
Interskate
Take the family out for the perfect combination of play and exercise at Interskate Roller Rink. Skate rentals are available so everyone can get out on the rink, even if you’re testing out the activity for the very first time. If you want to invest in equipment, the Skate Outlet is located inside the rink and sells roller skates, derby skates, inline skates, and kids’ skates.
Interskate even offers skate lessons if you have kids who want to master the art of gliding along the rink. Interskate typically hosts regular sessions on Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 to 6 p.m. The Saturday night skate session lasts from 5 to 10 p.m.
The snack stand offers a selection of treats to help you fuel up for more fun, like Mini Melts ice cream, popcorn, and hot dogs. You have one hour to stop the launch.

Hawaiian Falls
The Hawaiian Falls water park is the perfect destination for a day of family fun while the weather is warm. You can body surf or hop on a tube in the wave pool, float down the Kona Kooler lazy river, or race at a rapid speed through slides like the Pineapple Plunge or Waikiki Wipeout and Flyin’ Hawaiian. Hop in a two-person inner tube for the massive Hawaiian Halfpipe, or twist and turn down the Tiki Tower. The Water Walkway offers a calm way to cool off, while the Keiki Kove water playground is perfect for children 12 and under.
