The Equinox is one of Chevy’s most popular SUVs. With a roomy cabin that can seat up to five with plenty of cargo storage at the rear, and two turbocharged engines to choose from under the hood, there’s a lot to like about this compact SUV. In addition to these features, the 2021 Equinox boasts a long list of infotainment features and driver assistance technology. Here’s a look at some of the highlights.
Infotainment Screen and Stereo

Chevrolet’s entertainment system is known as Infotainment 3. It’s accessible in the Equinox’s base setup through a 7-inch screen. The menus and controls are easy to access and display clear graphics. You’ll also find physical controls to adjust things like the climate control and stereo volume. A further useful bonus when you’re behind the wheel is that the Equinox’s infotainment system includes voice recognition. This allows you to give it basic instructions, such as to play a particular radio channel, without taking your eyes off the road up ahead.
The next step up from Infotainment 3 is Infotainment 3+. This infotainment system is available with the Equinox’s higher trims, and gives you additional cloud-based features for better connectivity and convenience. For example, you can customize your own navigation routes.
You can upgrade to an 8-inch screen in some of the higher trims. There’s also the option to add a rear-seat infotainment system. This includes a screen for the rear row, which is sure to be well received by the kids or other back-seat passengers during a long trip.
The Equinox’s base trim includes a six-speaker stereo. If you want a higher-performance unit, you can opt for a Bose premium stereo with some of the higher trims.
Connectivity and Internet
Even with its standard features, Chevy’s infotainment 3 system offers plenty of ways to stay connected. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make the Equinox’s entertainment system fully compatible with your phone, allowing you to play music, access contacts, and much more.
The Equinox is also equipped with a wireless hot spot so you can have internet access while you’re on the go. Whether you’re away for a weekend or driving around Dallas on a busy work day, the hot spot will help you stay in touch with those most important to you. On top of that, there’s BlueTooth connectivity and four USB ports to keep all your devices linked up with the infotainment system.
You can add a further two USB ports and wireless device charging for your convenience. Satellite radio and HD radio are also offered for extra entertainment.
Comfort and Convenience
Beyond its infotainment offerings, Chevy has added some further tech to the Equinox for your comfort. Proximity keyless entry comes standard, enabling you to easily get into your SUV when you have a full pair of hands.
One helpful add-on is the Equinox’s navigation system, which can direct you to any destination you choose. You can also get a color information display so the driver can keep track on how the Equinox is performing.
The optional remote start function is great if you want to warm up the cabin on cold mornings or cool it down on a hot day. This will work better with the dual-zone automatic climate control, which is another feature available with some of the Equinox’s higher trims.
Driver Assistance Technology
Chevy has equipped the Equinox with an impressive array of safety technology in its base setup. The forward collision warning and pedestrian detection features will alert you if vehicles, people, or objects on the road up ahead threaten to trigger a collision. If you fail to respond quickly, the automatic emergency braking function can bring your SUV to a prompt stop.
Several family-friendly features are also included. Teen Driver lets you set limits on how your SUV is used by a secondary driver, such as your son or daughter. This can cover things like speed limits and volume restrictions for your Equinox’s sound system. Another popular feature for families is the rear-seat reminder, which alerts you to check the rear of your SUV for child passengers or pets before you get out of the car.
If you do a lot of highway driving in your Equinox, you’ll find the lane keep assist and lane departure warning features useful. You also have the option to add adaptive cruise control, which helps you maintain a steady speed on the highway and a constant distance from vehicles up ahead. To make this feature easier to use, you’ll find the cruise control button on the steering wheel.
Optional technology is on offer to make the task of parking your Equinox a breeze. There’s rear parking sensors and rear cross-traffic alert, which warns you if another vehicle will cross your path while you’re reversing. You can also opt for a surround-view parking camera, which presents you with an aerial view of your Equinox so that you can maneuver it more easily into your chosen spot. The Equinox also features an amazing towing capacity for an SUV.
